Indian Administrative Service (IAS): Is it possible to prepare for UPSC exams while I am in job? If yes, then how can I prepare?
-
I am in my final year of B.Tech., and I have decided to prepare for UPSC exams (quite late decision). And I have a job offer from a well-reputed company now and immediately after my college I will be asked to join the company. But UPSC needs a lot of preparation. I want to know whether I can be able to prepare for IAS when I am in a job. Or is it advisable to drop the job offer and focus only on UPSC exams ?

If you want to leave the job just because you have to study then IAS is not for you. Also, its not for money. Go for IAS only if you are really passionate about the POST.

The reason you want to stick with your job is that you want to play safe and not confident that you will clear the exam. Then there is no point for you to even appear for Civil Services. If you believe that you can crack it then give it your 100%. All that the exam needs is to believe in yourself and dedicate yourself for preparation.

As far as UPSC is considered to qualify the examination for IAS, you need to choose single optional subject of your choice according to the latest pattern. However, State PCS examination allows you to choose two optional subjects.

its definitely possible. for instance i am assuming your work time for 10 hours. 24 hours=you have in total. 10 hours = for job; 14 hours remaining 5 hours= sleep; 9 hours remaining. take a room nearby your work place so that you don,t spent more than 10 minutes in commuting. 1hour each= morning/evening ready plus commuting time. 7hours remaining. so you have total 7 hours for preparing for the exam more than enough if you are consistent and in weekend put 14 hours. and apart for this seven hours use your lunch break or any time available in bits and pieces during office you will see you cumulatively got 1 more hour. regarding daily schedule study two gs subjects in a day and optional alternative days. but this require a lot of determination you might get distract from your schedule but than quikly get back to your schedule.

Yes you can. However, if you are a class one IAF officer having a grade pay of Rs. 5400 or more, you won't be allowed to write IAS examination. Thanks and hope this helps :)

Hi!! :) Good that you have an inclination towards civil services. But make sure it's just not a surge of charm attraction. Why I say this is because you ought to enjoy the process of preparation. Coming to the point. Learn the syllabus! By heart it! Since you are in I.T sector, I would preferably assume that you won't be having issues reading online. Make sure you got all N.C.E.R.Ts. (pdf freely available) 1)First Reading : Just read them, kinda browse them 2)Second Reading : Understand 3)Third Reading : Write and Learn! Once done with the N.C.E.R.Ts move over to the standard books. Make sure you never miss The Hindu/I.E.( skip sports section, or political news etc) When you have learnt the syllabus you automatically can cut out un-important news. Don't mind if initial reading takes an hour plus, you'll catch up slowly. Choose the optional only on you're interest, not by crowd or cut - off. Try once , after three days or so, of summarizing and writing the editorial , it will give you an idea how much you grasp and can reproduce! Happy Preparation!

According to me until and unless you are financially stable dont leave your job. Try searching for time table in quora itself as there are people who has cracked UPSC and have discussed their journey. Follow Roman Saini and go for unacademy videos on u tube. Keep faith in yourself. You have to believe in yourself when no one else does - that makes you a winner . Hope it helps
