The Penn Battle shouldn't be in that list. It's a fairly new reel designed by Penn CHINA and hasn't had enough time to "get the bugs out". Even though it has current good reviews it's "longevity" is still in question..... Personally, when I go to buy a reel I want to know it has a "many year" (6 +) good reputation of durability. I hate to get out in the middle of no-where and have my equipment fail...... Realize- When it comes to Offshore fishing equipment "weight" can be a good thing. Which is more durable and "bullet proof"- 1/2" of graphite/magnesium OR a solid chunk of machined aluminum? The OFS is the best reel in that group, (it's also the most expensive in that group next to the Spheros). If properly cared for, it will last 10 PLUS years! Very few Spinning reels can last that long AND continue to pull 30-50lb fish out of the deep without torquing or warping. The Penn SSM is (almost) neck and neck with the OFS in quality. (It's also the second most expensive reel.) Where the Penn SSM "falters" is it's drag system- it's not nearly as smooth as an OFS. If you can find an older "non-China" made SSM and have it refurbished you'll have something comparable to an OFS. The Shimano Spheros is a good reel, BUT, it won't last as long as an OFS or Penn SSM. With medium use, (and proper care given), you'll get maybe 3-4 years before you'll need to send it off to get refurbished, (new drag and gearing). They just can't handle the torque like the OFS/Penn SSM- their gear housing isn't "beefy" enough to take the abuse. Charter boat Capt's love them because they are fairly easy to have fixed and have a "stopper-less design" allowing easier manipulation for prospective ("I've-never-gone-fishing-in-my-life") clients. Ironically, the OFS and Penn SSM are even EASIER to get fixed and, typically, ANY reel shop will have their parts on hand. If you can find a place that actually HAS all three of these reels in stock you should physically check them out side by side. Once you feel how "solid" the OFS is AND check out it's buttery smooth drag you'll know what I'm talking about...... But, all in all, out of those 3, you really can't go wrong....... Hope this helps you?

Yeah I would go with the Spheros also, Shimano is probably the best saltwater reel company.
