How do I use a crank bait?

What kind if crank bait should I use?

  I think Josh is on target. A lipless Crank- Rattle Trap, Cordell Spot, Aruku Shad- are good lures to get a feel for the aggressiveness of the fish. Lipless rattle baits will definitely catch active fish. However, for this time of year, (spawn/post-spawn), you may also want to have some Wake baits. And (possibly) some that dive and suspend. Why? If the fish (bass) are spawning (or in pre-spawn mode) they will be shallow (and possibly bedding). Thus, having a super shallow Crankbait is a good idea. Why have a deep suspender?? After spawn, larger (female) bass will move to deeper water (deep weed edges, sharp drop-off's) and begin feeding on EASY, slow-moving, targets. Thus, suspending jerk baits and slash bait's can work well during this time of year....(Although, IMHO, a Jig/Pig, Senko rigged Wacky style, ETC can/will be better- its slower). If you know what mode the bass are in, it shouldn't be too difficult to find them. Just don't get hung up wanting to catch fish on a Crank when they are going on something else. Hope this helps?
