Can you use a hair rig under a float or just when fishing on the bottom?

Yes you can ,but it's only gonna work fished on the bottom, because of( think about it ) the way it was designed so as the bait lay's away from the hook,if it's suspended in the water it will make the hook more obvious. But fish it by laying on and it works a treat,in case your not familiar with the turn laying on ( plumb the depth,then set your float to fish somewhere between 6 inches to 2 foot over depth, majority of your weights set to be on the bottom about four inches from your hook.cast out sink your line ,rod in rest adjust your float by tensioning your line,sit back and wait. Do u mean hair jig? Omg this is my fav way to angle for fish~especially panfish~I like to call it the float and fly technique...what I like to do is use a slip bobber,tie on a feather/hair jig,put a piece of powerbait on the hook. But what are u fishing for and where? I live in Minnesota and love the inland waters,so its easy to fish this technique...

The "Float and Fly" technique was invented by a smallmouth guide on Dale Hollow in northern middle Tennessee. This being my home lake, I learned to fish this technique several years ago. It's just a slip float above a small 1/16th to 1/8th ounce hair jig. Set your depth with the slip float and just cast it out and jiggle it as you bring it back toward you. The slower the better.
