What is the best 4 stars hotel in rome? looking for excellent location?

    Hotel de Russie in Piazza del Popolo, there is the Metro near, but you can come out to the hotel and walk to via del Corso, via Margutta (full of painters ateliers). In 10 min you are in Piazza di Spagna......and walking in the back to the hotel there is il Pincio, with marvelous belvedere on the place above. There are restaurant e trattorie around, parks and don't forget the church with paintings of Caravaggio. The star rating system in Italy is a bit different from the US. 4 stars is like a 2.5-3 star US and there is a big gap between 4 and 5 stars. My 4 star hotel (I can't remember the name) smelled like fish and didn't have a proper shower, just a drain in the floor with a hand-held shower head, so you got everything in the bathroom wet.

Not sure of the star rating but I stayed at the Albergo del Senato in January and it was very nice. It is located right on the Piazza della Rotunda, where the Pantheon is. Great location, I walked everywhere in Rome from there (Vatican, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, etc) nowhere was really far away. Stacks of little cafes and restaurants around. Check out http://www.albergodelsenato.it/ for details. I found it through tripadvisor.com - I just went off which hotels got the best ratings and were available while I was there.
