How do forest conserve water?

How do I convince my flatmate to be more eco friendly and conserve water and energy?

• I live in Bangalore and there is a big power and water crisis here. Fortunately I live in a society where we get 24x7 water and power. But this leads to exploitation of water and electricity. My flatmate is rarely concerned about power and water. We can pay high prices as we are working for bg MNCs but if we use too much, poor people in the city will not be able to afford it. How do I convince my friends to conserve energy, water etc. ?

  How you deal with that issue depends entirely on what kind of person your flatmate is. Some people need nagging/lecturing - for others it will potentially worsen the offending behaviour. You may have to accept the possibility that there is nothing you can do, beyond what you already have. You cannot coerce your flatmate to do as you wish! Is there any scope for fitting energy/water saving devices? If the behaviour won't change, perhaps such devices may mitigate the waste.
