Good choice getting into Canon. I would shoot for and of the Rebel models. I've had the XT, XS, and the T1i, and I have loved them all, and they have served me very faithfully over the years. They are really the best for beginners, who just wants to learn the basics and wants nice, good-quality pictures. You get the most bang for your buck, and the less money you spend on the camera, the more you have left over for quality lenses :)

I am just getting started in photography and just bought myself a Canon SLR. I bought a Canon Rebel XS and it was $550.00. It was REALLY well for the money and I am super happy with it. I would also suggest any other Canon SLR's because they are really amazing.
