    As European you will have the basic social security. Just apply for it at http://www.ameli.fr/assures/droits-et-demarches/par-situation-professionnelle/vous-faites-des-etudes/vous-etes-etudiant/votre-protection-sociale.php Student social security is run by health insurance companies but you can just apply for the basic social security through them without taking useless other coverage. You will need to open a bank account. Take bank like BNP or SOCIETE GENERALE they have good networks. Ask them a check book and a visa paying card that the basis in France. They will give you a RIB which is your account reference : usefull to receive transfer and subscribe for telephone, electricity, etc.... Enjoy that's a lovely country despite grumpy people.
