I never have to look long or far when I'm playing on Freechess.org and Yahoo has too many problems and cheaters. I recommend you try http://www.freechess.org for online play. Once you create your free account, download a free Windows interface from http://www.babaschess.net to avoid having to use a browser for online play. Once you get all setup, you can pull up the graphical search grid to find an opponent.
