Can you use western union online?

Is it a good idea to use Western Union to order products online at wholesale price overseas?

  • I have shopped on the website, but as I shopped on DHgate for wholesale price, I could only check out using Western Union. Is there a risk and should that always be a scam?

    Using Western Union or Moneygram is the WORST possible idea. A legitiamte wholesaler should accept CREDIT CARDS where you have protection if you don't receive what you ordered. Or go through a service like Escrow.com where the vendor doesn't get paid until you receive the items With Western Union you have NO protection. If they don't send the item, you have NO way to get your money back. NO legitimate business will ever ask for payment through Western Union for any reason

Definitely a scam (and an absolute classic, too!). There are legit reasons to use Western Union, but doing business with somebody you don't know personally is not one of them. Western Union and MoneyGram will hand out your cash to anybody who knows the reference number and answer to the secret question (maybe not even that if the WU clerk is corrupt). Once the cash has been picked up it's virtually untraceable. Would an honest business partner prefer this method over a much easier and cheaper credit card or bank transfer? You be the judge. Rule of thumb: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
