Whats the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R?

  • Can dvd players read DVD+R or mostly DVD-R? My DVD burner can do both but i want to know which media to use before i start to record movies so they can play on my dvd player. Thanks.

with current or late model gear, it means nothing. In the past it did when the two formats were competing and different companies would make their stuff so it would not play or record to either flavor. However, this format war just confused people and made a big mess of things. Unless your DVD player is from before 2002 give or take, it will play all flavors or recordable DVD. Once in a while you'll get a bad burn, or an older player that's fussy and won't read one kind or the other but that's rare these days. I have a Sony DVD player from 2006 and a blu ray player from 2009 they both play + and - single layer, dual layer, RW etc with no issues, and that's from all the major brands like Maxell, Memorex, Sony, Verbatim etc.
