    Many more expensive subwoofers have their over crossover circuitry to split the low-end frequencies from the rest of the sound coming out of your receiver. You can use this circuitry, or ignore it and let your receiver's crossover settings do the work. The only reason I can think of doing this is if you have an stereo receiver or other source that does not have a Subwoofer output. If you use the subwoofer's crossover, run the Left and Right speaker wires first to the sub's L and F input terminals. Run the L and F output from the sub to your real Left and Right front speakers. Now you can adjust your crossover at the subwoofer. Axiom speakers has a nice little article that covers this as well as crossover settings in general. Link is below.
