pooh is right, you need a receiver, unfortunately these are not cheap! check out Craigslist to try to find a used one.. thats where i went when one of my buddies peed on mine while drunk.

You need to use a receiver, then connect the TV and speakers to that. If you use a cable or satellite box, you can connect its audio cables (the red/white RCA cables) to the receiver instead of your TV, and get sound from the speakers that way. Either way, you need a receiver.
