    Yes... if you plan on listening to it anyways. You'll need to add a receiver and speakers, which should be at least another $400 for decent stuff. If you need something cheaper search Craigslist. You can get a whole stereo for less than that, if you don't mind it being used/an older model.

You need a sound system/receiver with phono inputs. Without it, you can't hear anything. If your plan is to hook it up to a computer and transfer records to CD or MP3s you need a phono preamp adapter and connect it to the line-in on the PC.
