Which is better directv or dishnetwork?

Can DVR (not from Dishnetwork or DirecTV) records the entire season like Tivo?

  I bought a DVR last year for Xmas. My wife did not want it, and we took it back to get the Tivo. We found that you had to tell the DVR (and it was a Panasonic) everything. Where as with the Tivo it knew what was playing and when. The DVR used the TV Guild channel to find it's programs and all areas do not get that channel. Our Tivo has gave us many headaches over the year, and we are now looking at what is called a Moxi System. Our Cable company Charter offers it. We have been told that it is much better, since it gets updated by the same source. Where as a DVR and Tivo are third parties.
