How do I hook up my DTV converter box?

How to hook up DTV Converter Box to VCR?

  • Is it possible to hook up VCR with TV that has digital tuner with one converter box and still be able to record one channel while watching another? I heard you need 2 converter boxes ...show more

  • Answer:

Because the TV already has a digital tuner, you only need one converter for the VCR. Unless your VCR has an IR Blaster that can control a cable box (which is the DTV converter in this case), you won't be able to use the VCR timer to change channels and record shows. Without the IR Blaster, you can only record the channel you last selected on the DTV converter. Also watch out for the auto-shutoff feature built into the converters. You could end up with nothing recorded. With the VCR IR Blaster, you also need to make sure that your VCR knows the codes to send to control the converter box. For example, I heard that APEX converter boxes use the same codes as Toshiba TV's. If you don't plan to record anything with the VCR (ie. Just play rented tapes) then you don't need a converter for the VCR either. And all this assumes your programming soruce is an antenna, not cable or dish.
