How do you set up file sharing?

How do I set up a file sharing network between a Windows Vista and XP PC?

  • I want to transfer a file from my XP PC to my vista PC. The connection isnt wireless its with cable so how would i go about doing this?

  • Answer:

If you open My Documents you will see "Shared Documents" on the left. This is a folder that is set up as shared. Put whatever you want to share in that folder. Both PCs must be in the same Workgroup. Right click on My Computer, select Properties and Computer Name. Click on Change if you need to change one. In the other PC go to "My Network Places" (also in My Documents) and look in "View Workgroup Computers". You should see the other PC. Double click on it to see shared files.
