Why is the salary of the Prime minister of India less than that of the President of the United States of America?

  • Both do basically the same job, then why is the salary of the Indian Prime minister 30,000$ whereas the American President earns 4,00,000$? What are the probable reason for such a huge difference? Fact Source:Wikipedia.

    I believe two reasons: 1) Difference in per capita income. Poorer country's leader should get less money as it looks rational in context of realities of the country 2) In Indian context, public service, at least textbook version of it, is considered very sacred and selfless while in the West, Govt career is still a form of Career. So India pays its politicians to pursue an austere lifestyle (Which again is considered a higher moral ideal in Indian context) and nothing more. Public service is really "service". Ignoring the scams that is :-)
