What is the intesection research area, if any, between software engineering and Social Networking?

• I am interested in the research in the field of social network from CS context. what are the areas where Software engineering and Social networking intersect? I.e. how the research in software engineering could help in providing better social network application in many terms e.g. security, scalability... etc/

  Honestly, nowadays every web application is somehow social, so most software engineering principles apply to social applications as to any other web enterprise one. On the other hand, social aspects are deeply analyzed in software engineering research. This guy, Massimiliano Di Penta, and his co-authors, for instance, do software repository mining to find any kind of correlations between code changes and software quality metrics. Moreover, they've built a tool for recommend mentors to newcomers in open source projects,  based on mentor's previous activity on that project. I don't know if there is already something about it out there, but l'm sure it would be interesting to study social interactions on platforms like github or bitbucket and see how they impact on software quality.
