Right now I'm using sony vegas pro 8.0. It's very expensive but a very good program to use in the case of video editing. And yes you do have to have a video pre-recorded before you start editing.

well it depends what year/brand your computer is. if you have a windows, windows movie maker is really good, you just have to learn how to use it. and ivideo on the mac is is good, as i heard. but i've never used it.
