    okay, there is no true "best programming language" each programming language ranges difficulty depending on the person, along with capability, power, whether it's able to go from one operating system to another such as Linux, windows or mac, i know "HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS, c++, batch, little bash, every language has it's own ability, level of power, level of complexity, and also what it can do, such as c++ being made to create games, or visual basics, it's capable of making web browsers with one line of code, java is powerful too, it's one out of 2 programming languages used to create a game called Runescape, the other is a language created by Andrew Gowers the creator "rune script" but Java isn't very hard, it's more simple than C++, also with Java you can embed your software in your websites using the <applet> tag. but if you wish to program the core to system software learn batch or bash, more simple, if you wish to program hardware, then learn pic axe or assembly, if you wish to make games, learn c++ or Java or for something easier in the games area try ruby or python, if you wish to have something that makes data bases learn something like visual basics or dbase or even, although there are thousands of languages, just like normal human languages each one has it's on complexity, one might look like complete jibberish and your thinking what did i get myself into, or some might look like simple English to you. each language has it's own syntax, although some languages may have a word, code or phrase that is used in other languages, such as VOID meaning zero or null. hope this helps :P

There is none, programming languages are like tools, you use certain ones for particular tasks. You would never write a 3d game in php and also would (or should) never attempt to make a web app in C. It depends on what you want to do. For learning I recommend Python, its completely free, very easy, and once you get past the basics you can make windows gui apps with wxpython or games with pygame. http://www.python.org/about/gettingstarted/

This is going to stir an argument! i vote one of the C family eg c++ or c- (depending on many thinks like what platform (computer, ipod etc) you want to put your work on). there is a site that has info on but i have forgotten the name, soz but i don't thinks its to hard to find. it says whichis the most popular this monthand over the year. edit found it its www.tiobe.com and java's winning btw is the thankssssssssss a minecraft reference

There is no such thing as a "best" language. That's like asking what is the best car. Every person you ask is going to give you a different answer for different reasons. None of the answers will be right, and none of them will be wrong. In all cases, the best language to use is the one that allows you to accomplish your task with a minimum amount of coding and targets all of the platforms that you want your software to run on. That will vary from application to application. C++ covers the most systems but I personally hate programming in C++ so I avoid it at all costs.

It really depends on what you want to do. If you are a web programmer it might make sense to learn PHP or C#.
