How do free texting apps work?

Are there any texting apps for the Ipod Touch, that actually work?

Yeah they are tons of apps search Texting, usually the ones on top are recent apps, try to look for ratings and comments just to make sure how the app turned out for other people. I had " Txt for free" and it worked just fine, there's a paid version also but I don't really see a difference. Your choice your taste. LOL
