  • Answer:

First, if you are taking care of the pool (as opposed to a pool guy), you probably ought to learn more about it (or bring someone in). Chlorine does not balance pH, muric acid and soda ash (or other equivalents) do. Chlorine serves a different purpose, killed bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants. Otherwise--precautions I think would be the same as an outdoor pool. Do not swim alone. No diving in shallow water. Don't run around the pool deck.

You have to have a rhythm otherwise you could hit your head on the wall or edge of the pool or graze your knuckles or break a wrist. Put gaff tape or marker on the pool floor or when the pool is empty have a line or marker painted. There is nothing worse than knocking your head or punching on the pool wall when your doing a turn.

Make sure the chemicals are balanced and that you can see the bottom of the pool. Make sure someone knows that you're swimming in case there's an accident. If you are unaware of these things then maybe you should turn your pool into and exotic garden.
