How to get analog channels on HDTV, in rural area?

    From the price and source of the antenna you bought, I'm pretty sure that it is an indoor one. Most of those are truly horrible. With analog TV, you could often see something through all the static and snow. People got used to thinking that was normal - it's not. With digital, you won't get anything at all unless you have a decent antenna. Like one of the other answerers said, check out antennaweb or TVfool by entering your parent's address there. It will tell you the stations and locations and even recommend suitable antennas.

Before you do anything more with your antenna I would do a search on tvfool or antennaweb. You put in the address and it will tell you what channels are available and which way to orient the antenna. Also, there is no such thing as an HDTV antenna - that is marketing. If your parents had an old antenna, (and it would be good if it were on the roof or somewhere high) that may still work. However, in the digital switchover, some stations moved from VHF to UHF. If that is true in your area and the old antenna was not designed for UHF, you might need a VHF and UHF antenna. http://www.tvfool.com/ http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx

There are no more analog channels.. However, cable companies broadcast in SD and HDTV...If you are too far from TV towers in a nearby large City, an antenna won't be much help. Consider getting Satellite service.

Did you try to go on the tvs menu and scan for digital channels? They should get all of the local channels in HD. (NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, CW, etc.) If you still don't receive any channels, you should try to call Sanyo for more help. If you got those channels before, you should now get them in HD.
