Why can't I view the messages people sent me?

I cant get messages on my messenger, they wont come up when they are sent, Why?

• when i am on yahoo messenger, i type messages and when people on my friends list try to respond their messages wont come up. Please help me. Please send the answers to my mail

  Un-installing then re-installing Yahoo Messenger may solve your problem. You may have too many unnecessary programs automatically starting up and running in the background draining your system's resources and causing problems with your Yahoo Messenger. Please click on the link and enter "Tuneup Utilities 2007" into a software search to locate the download. Prior to downloading Yahoo Messenger again, you must un-install it.
