  They accept one applicant in four. My daughter just applied. She said a lot of the health workers applicants have a Master's in Public Health. If you want to work in Latin America you have to be fluent in Spanish before you go. (When I served, 30 years ago, they taught me Malay, Iban and Hokkien.) Talk to a recruiter. You didn't mention your major or skill set. The first thing they look for is skills that some developing country asked for. If you were a civil engineer or had led a 4-H chapter for six years, half a dozen programs would fight for you. If you have taken three or four TESL classes, ditto. If you are a History major with good intentions, you are competing with a couple of hundred others for a dozen slots. I'm not trying to rain on your parade; much has changed since I served and my daughter isn't typical. Please don't let me discourage you from applying. Talk to a recruiter.
