How to use a camcorder?

How can I use a Sony HD camcorder with a Mac for live webstreaming?

  • Anyone know how to use a Sony HD camcorder (HDR-XR260V) as a live streaming source on a Mac?  USB out from the camcorder turns it into a hard drive for the Mac, not a streaming source.  The Mac doesn't seem to know how to take HDMI in through the display port.

  • Answer:

The basic elements for streaming are the camera, the encoder, a media host, and a content delivery network. You already have the camera, and i assume you already know who your media host will be. You don‘t have to worry about the CDN. The encoder is usually the one element that gives the most headaches, and perhaps the most important one. The encoder converts your raw video signal into a viable video format to be edited or streamed. For the purpose of streaming HD video, you will need a powerful encoder that can digitize 18mbps in real time. I‘d recommend getting http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/495426-REG/Blackmagic_Design_BINTSPRO_Intensity_Pro_HDMI_and.html. It‘s mounted on your computer, so you wont‘t have to worry about laggy video from the encoder, and it‘s quite cheap. Good Luck!

You need a Firewire Camera Like the Sony HVR-HD100 or the Canon Vixia HV-40
