How long do caterpillars stay in cocoon?

Do caterpillars eat any leaves during the metamorphosis or cocoon stage?

    The caterpillar does not eat while it is is inside the cocoon. It eats and stores food in its body ( like bears do in hibernation )before it makes the cocoon. You will need to get new leaves once it becomes a moth. Yes, the moth will die if the transformation fails. For example, if it is to cold the transformation will fail, but it would have to be in 50 or 40 and below temperatures for the transformation to fail. Just keep the moth cocoon in room temperatures.
