    Associates degree takes 2yrs. It is better because you also take basics which you can later transfer to a 4 yr. college. A "diploma or certificate" is more like a vocational type of study.Usually 1yr. It really won't transfer to any other college....go with the 2 yr. degree! -Sorry if this is unclear, good luck!

I'm assuming that the diploma program would be a 4 year degree (also called a bachelor's or baccalaureate degree). Usually this can get you a better job than just an associate's degree would, but you would spend about 4 years (on average) in school instead of just 2.
