    Hey hun I'm in 11th grade and UC BERKELEY Is definitely the BEST choice. I want to major in journalism (writing as you) and also law - at UCB they have over 1000+ different courses to choose from, and also you can make up your own major! My advice: Take all AP classes/ as many as you can. since UCB is already hard to get Into making your application stand out is a MUST. However participating in extra circular activites is a must also! Stick to 1-3 depending how well you can balance school & sports/band as you said and just either practice one - earn rewards for it or whatever or have many and just be multi talented! LEADERSHIP is a big thing there, so join student council, and other activities! High school is amazing, you'll love it for freshman year! Best of luck Xoxo

They look for extra curriculars that you excel at and clubs related more toward your intended major. 3 years of band shows dedication, especially if your band wins trophies of excellence. Try out for the swim team it can't hurt. Try for that 4.0 and be as competitive as you can with those AP Classes. Go for 5s on the AP exams and study. Don't fraternize like myself and put off studying for AP exams or you will regret it. Volunteer and have a passion. Don't volunteer with the homeless if you like animals.
