How is it at San Francisco State University?

Does San Francisco State University accept out of state students?

  • I live in PA and want to go to san francisco state university which is a large school with over 30,000.... College board says that only 1 percent of the students are out of state and ...show more

  • Answer:

SF State does accept out-of-state students; all colleges and universities do but the reason that out-of-state students usually make up a relatively small percentage of any college student population is that out-of-state students pay higher tuition than students with same-state residency. Students from other countries pay even higher tuition costs most of all because education opportunities are often much fewer and lesser overseas.

Oh, to the contrary. California colleges LOVE out-of-state students. They get to charge you outrageously high tuition rates. In the realm of $50,000 a year. As said by others the reason why the low percentage of non-resident students is because most CAN'T afford to attend California schools.

yes you are eligible to apply and they may or may not accept you. obviously the admission process depends on a lot of different things. you should know SFSU is severely suffering from budget cuts and many of the student already attending cannot get the classes they want - so they accept very little new students each year. after one year of living here you could pay in state tuition... but honestly you might as well just to The University of San Francisco - USF - which is a private university here in san francisco that is about $38,000 per year but it will certainly get you a much better education than sf state... if you are a good student, i think its worth it. maybe i am biased because i go there - graduating this year in nursing. so just so you know, every single person i know that goes there is constantly complaining how the school is cutting classes, cutting admission, cutting teachers... the school is really suffering financially, so that is something to consider when planning your education. google some news articles for "san francisco state university budget cuts"

Probably 1% because it's on the other side of the country.... You can't be denied because you're out of state. Statistics are made up for statistics. I'm sure state schools in PA don't have many out of staters either.

While I agree with the other responses, that out-of-state tuition is a large factor in the amount of non-resident students at State, I must argue with the numbers given to you. It's not ten times more, nor $50,000. The tuition and fees for a state resident student at SF State college is about $5,000, and for an out-of-state student is about $16,000.

There is only a very small number of out-of-state students in California state colleges because of the non-residency expense to go to a California state college. It's just VERY expensive! As a non-resident, it will cost you about 10 times what they charge California state residents.
