Best places to live in Pennsylvania?

It really depends on what you're looking for. What is not "too far" from NYC? Two hours? Pennsylvania has rural, suburban sprawl, and urban areas. I personally love Philadelphia, but if that's not an option, you might consider Lancaster- it has as small city, typical sprawl, and tons of farmland. There are a lot of cultural attractions in the area. If you want really rural, go towards northern PA. As for comments that Pennsylvanians are rude or that the state is unsafe-- that's ridiculous. You'll find friendly people and rude people no matter where you go in the world. Pennsylvania is as safe as any other U.S. state.

Pennsylvania is a very large state. You could live in any of the communities in the Pocono mountain area (Monroe County) and be close to NYC. But there is not much in the way of "night life" there (aside fro a casino). Philadelphia is the epicenter of the 4th largest metropolitan area in the US. There are four suburban ciounties that surround Philadelphia in PA that have every type of community you could imagine. (Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware). Camden, Gloucester and Burlington Counties in NJ have cities towns and townships of all types, are a right over the river from PA. Don't take any adbvice about Reading. Reading is a poverty stricken, crime ridden city in the middle of Berks County farm country.

Reading is about 50 miles from philly and they have the Reading Phillies Double A farm team and have all those outlet stores as well.

Pennsylvania isn't the best state to move to IMO. The people aren't very friendly and the crime is pretty bad. But, I would recommend that you don't live in Philadelphia or Harrisburg. I hate those places for multiple reasons. Would recommend a different state tbh
