What link to add in as webpage to download a media file that a web browser supports instead of having the browser open it in itself?

Like Facebook's download option in the settings option of a picture. Normally, I see that in other sites, The pic opens up in a separate page that links only to that picture. How to avoid that trouble for the end user?

Answer:
Turn it into a compressed file, like a .zip file. I think most computers have this preinstalled, but research this to make sure. If you are doing this for a mobile device, I have no idea, sorry.
