How much total power do i need to power my car subwoofers?

    You certainly need amplifier that supplies 500RMS+500 RMS = 1000 RMS in total. The best is to put them in series or parallel and power then using a mono amplifier. If your subs are of 4 ohm each, then in parallel = 2 ohm; so connect a mono amp of rating 1000 rms @ 2 ohm. If your subs are of 2 ohm each, then in series = 4 ohm; so connect a mono amp of rating 1000 rms @ 4 ohm. Only if your amp is stable at 1 ohm ... If your subs are of 2 ohm each, then in parallel = 1 ohm; so connect a mono amp of rating 1000 rms @ 1 ohm. Note that: It is sufficient if the subwoofers are powered at 70% of their RMS power... So, instead of 500+500=1000, you can as well hook an amp of 350W RMS+ 350W RMS = 700W RMS and still get most out of your subwoofers. Hope it helps

assuming that you have 500RMS per speaker, dont get an amp that pushes 500RMS per speaker. get one that is about 350 or 400 RMS per speaker dont get an amp that will be always pushing the envelope. it will blow your speakers for sure. if its 500RMS + 500 RMS = 1000 RMS, than get an amp that has two outputs each 350-400 rms... get 400 rms and just dont turn it all the way up for a long period of time. if you get 500rms than the subwoofer will defenatly blow if you turn it up all the way. just buy what you think you can handle, if you always turn it to the max get 350-400... dont blow speakers it happens all the time.

500 rms for both subs?? or for one? if its for both subs than you only need an amp thats pushes 500 rms if its 500 rms for one than you'll need an amp that pushes 1000 rms
