What is the difference between a motel, a hotel, an inn, and a bed & breakfast?

I just always wondered what classifications each one needed in order to be called a mote, hote, inn, and bed & breakfast. sorry if this is the wrong section. i really didn't ...show more

To me, hotels are one big building with floors and hallways connecting the rooms, while motels are like a strip of rooms that go out to the parking lot or a stair case to the parking lot. Does that make sense? Inns are usually quaint and may be "homey." True bed and breakfasts are actually someone's home, and you just rent a room. The owners live there, and you eat with them if you want to. (kind of weird if you aren't used to it).
