How to customize Google Chart?

Does the release of the Google Glass Kernel source mean that a talented engineer could completely customize the user experience, end-to-end?

  • http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2013-04/30/glass-source-code Could a talented hacker modify the kernel and create their own GlassOS, purchase Glass units, install their new OS on them, and resell them, completely bypassing the Google Cloud services?

  • Answer:

Yes, to a limit. The kernel alone is the bare requirement to execute code on the Glass processor, and you could build a new operating system on top of it. That said, it's a Bad Idea. Wait until Google holds up their end of the Android Open Source Project and releases the Android source for Glass. Just like MIUI forked AOSP into a completely redeveloped UI, you could bend and break a so-called Open Glass into whatever your little hacker heart desires. Glass even uses a standard OMAP processor, so you wouldn't even need to recompile for new instruction sets. Google's release is just their extensions and additions to Linux, which omits a whole bunch of stuff that will be a pain in the ass to re-engineer: Integration algorithms to do meaningful stuff with the motion sensors Binary blobs and proprietary code for codecs, wireless, Bluetooth, and other hardware Proprietary, licensed parts of the Java runtime Code to maintain the low-level link with a phone Authentication information for the Mirror API It's also worth mentioning that the Glass Explorer agreements do not permit reselling or distribution, regardless of what software they contain.
