I have a single degree and I am in a well-paying software job. What should I do next with my life?
-
I have a bachelor's degree in computer science and I have a stable, well paying job at a top software company in Hyderabad. MBA doesn't interest me. I don't think I am too interested in pursuing a Master's degree in an engineering field either. I am, however, passionate about music and skilled in a few instruments as well as in composition. But I have no formal training in music. I don't have goals of making it big in music, but I do want to create more music and show it to the world.

You could go about this in two ways: The Easy Way: Forget your passion for music. A good background in CS and a good paying job in a good company could easily land you in a good US university for a MS or a MBA. Go for it! And make more money. Tell others how frustrated you are from your job like we all do. Get bald and retire with a lot of money. The Hard Way: Drop out of your current engagements. Be a Rebel. Take up music. Get good at it. Make some music. No matter you end up becoming a Rockstar or not, remain satisfied that you make music all your life. Still keep you hair. Retire with satisfaction and money(in case u make it big) Break the Rooster Coop!!

You have a lot of options. You could stay at your current job and explore music in your free time. Try to play some shows for money and see if you really like the music scene. If you like it, then commit to a music career. If you don't like it, keep music as a hobby and keep working at your software job. Additionally, you could ditch the software job and start your own small business developing software. Then split your time between playing music and your own small business. Godspeed, Rob

You want to leave software engineering, but you also do not care to make it big in music. Keep your day job, and pour every single ounce of time and energy into your musical escapade. If you can get paid in the music world, bounce from software and join it.

See since u don't have huge goals about music, also u wish to present it to the world. Take it as a hobby and enjoy doing this during ur free times. Do it alone or take few friends along. Post ur creations on youtube. About ur job, since u have already entered this battlefield, so then "give ur best and forget the rest" :) :)
