My emoticons don't work in the latest version of Yahoo Mail. Got answer. Didn't save. What settings need?

Somebody wrote an answer involving changes in settings but I forgot to save it. Were very simple, clear directions. I am a novice.

the answer from Barl L doesn't make sense. I am in rich text mode. If I click on the emoticon the panel of choices comes up but nothing happens if I select one and click on it. If I click on the sideways vv on the tool bar all it does is change my settings back to plain text. ?????

Carol, Here is how to attach an emoticon: -make sure you are in rich text mode -click the emoticon symbol on your toolbar -click on the 2sideways v's on the bottom right of your toolbar, select your emoticon -when the emoticon appears on the screen, click on the 2 sideways v's on the left side of the toolbar :-)
