If I'm understanding your question correctly...you need to put the cursor where the body (text) of an email would go and then click attach, then browse to find the document, attach it and then send.. For the longest time I was having trouble with this as well and the reason I couldn't send the attachments is because I had the cursor where the address goes and not in the body of the email.
