How to delete sponsored e-mails in inbox?

Yahoo Mail Inbox has started sending a different sponsored e-mail at the top of my inbox. How can I delete these e-mails and WHY did they start coming?

There is a Firefox add-on to fix exactly that Yahoo Mail Hide Ad Panel (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/yahoomailhideadpanel/ ) It's so great to get my full screen monitor back! If you don't have the Firefox browser, you can easily download and install it from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

yeah this totally sucks and is unacceptable. I have replaced yahoo as my homepage and mail, becuase of this and all of the other ads that bombard you when trying to use yahoo! They used to be great, too bad they now SUCK ***

i don't care how much revenue Yshoo is gobbling up at our expense! they have no right to sell /purchase and push off on us without asking -i would like to drop them as my carrier

I can't rid of the sponsored email from Facebook - none of the menus are active when I try to open them (right click). There's also a funny icon (a dollar sign in the middle of a sun burst) that I've seen before. None of the suggestions below help.
