What is the best international secondary school in New Delhi?

What is it like to study at The Mother's International School, New Delhi?

  • Answer:

I noticed this question hasn't been answered for quite some time. So couldn't help myself. If you get to study at The Mother's International School, New Delhi, consider yourself lucky. I studied there for 8 years and though I cursed a lot of things while I was in there, today when I look back, I realise that it was really this school that taught me pretty much everything that has shaped me as a person. Starting with the morning assembly recitations (which we then complained about), the P.E. periods, the S.U.P.W. (Some Useful Periods Wasted.. No idea what the actual full form is) periods, all the extracurricular activities, the quizzes, the olympiads, the classes, the insights into the lives of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother to the final queue we'd make at the end of the day to board our buses, I miss every little thing because "it's the little things that people do that makes the whole world go". A lot of things which didn't make any sense back then, do now. I still dream about the beautiful campus, the huge fields, the 'exotic' birds in the campus like our Biology teacher would point out from time to time and the matri store cake, the mother's-wheel-shaped 'friams', the samosas and the chholey kulchey!! :D And the faculty is pretty brilliant too, a few of whom just might make a difference in your life. I know it sounds like I'm advertising the school, but it is much more than I can convey through words. Simply put, I love that school. And, of course, the friends it introduced to me. Though I had to leave after my 10th standard Board exams (one of the hardest things I've had to do) because I was moving out of Delhi a pretty long time ago, when you say 'Alma Mater', the only thing that comes to my mind is 'MIS'. :)

It has definitely shaped the way I am in life. I have observed that at this school, your talents never go to waste and you are never overshadowed. Teachers are very sensitive and open minded. For one instance, I was extremely pathetic at Mathematics, so I was dreading the PTM. Once we reached my Math teacher, the first line that she told my mother was that you have an extremely talented daughter and you should be very proud of her. She was referring to my various extracurricular activities. In the end when my mother asked about math, she said we will work on it, it will happen and also explained that every child is different and everyone doesn't have to good at Math to do well in life. On another note, there is a great sense to ensure that all children are and feel equal. This is not just ensured by the uniform. But the teachers also take note of other things. For instance, if a rich kid is wearing a fancy watch, then it is not allowed. Of course it is not part of the uniform, but it ensures that other kids whose parents cannot afford such watches, don't feel underprivileged. Our school allows for blue or grey mufflers only in winters and if they are not simple or standard they are discouraged. Thus children are raised in an extremely healthy environment. Another brilliant thing about MIS is that there is no chance that children will climb walls of the school and bunk classes. There is a great sense of discipline. Our school sensitizes us towards various burning issues. One instance is environment.  We have different dustbins for bio degradable and non-biodegradable substances. I am saying this because after passing out of school I have observed and heard from friends from other schools that they seldom think before throwing a wrapper on the ground (I am not suggesting all students from other schools have no concern), whereas a student of MIS is always conscientious towards his/her environment. This is just tip of the ice berg. There are plethora of reasons why studying at MIS is the best life experience that you can give your child which shapes him/her to become not a just a better achiever in life but most of all a better and sensitive human being.
