Which crusher is the best?

What's the different between jaw crusher and impact crusher?Iwant to break basalt,Which is better?

  • Answer:

Jaw crushers work by squeezing more than by smacking, to keep things simple. There is a bit of a vee-shape to the plates (one is usually fixed and the other rotates in and out), and the rock bits fall down when open and get squeezed until they break as the jaw closes. A jaw crusher tends to break up a wide range of pieces because they get wedged in at different levels of the jaw. An impact crusher typically just uses a flat plate to directly crush and thus most of the energy is concentrated on the larger particles (pieces); the smaller stuff is protected from the initial contact by the presence of the larger stuff. Which would be better depends on the situation and amount of stuff you are breaking. Normally in a rock lab to break samples up I use what is available and that would usually be a jaw crusher, followed by a disk grinder. In mineral processing, there are a lot of ways to function and best to do pilot trials to see what works for the situation. Perhaps a SAG or *** mill (say, a ball mill with trommel) would be a better front end treatment than a primary crusher, depending on the feed. EDIT probably should mention that a jaw crusher seems to be able to jam more easily than an impact crusher. Sometimes the smaller bits clog up in the vee and do not break up, but simply get wedged together and everything starts to pile up above the blockage. Don't see that type of blockage as often with an impact crusher.

Jaw crushers look like the name implies, like jaws. Two plates that open and close. Very good for primary crushing. Impact Crusher is one fixed plate and one that strikes down with an amount of force. Very noisy. Have never seen one working though. At the 'Silica' plant they had, jaw-, cone-, mill-, and orbital crushers. That stuff (silica) was HARD. Peace.
