Does a (London) bus know which oyster card zone it is in? - Oyster Travelcard bus outside zone travel.?

I've got a travelcard on my oyster card for zones 2&3 but my work's bus stop is in zone 4. Does the bus know which zone it is in? i.e. will i be charged for the bus journey?

yes, they know. you only can go in, in your areas, but you can go out wherever you want (If they don´t catch you)
