London is super expensive for average wage earners (under 30k). You should be able to afford a decent neighborhood in the city or nearby suburbs (if you prefer). I don't think you'll have trouble finding a better quality flat of that size within your budget. Car ownership presents the extra hassle and expense of parking it. You might want to try for a building where a space is offered.

If you're earning around £100K a year you're pretty well off so you should be fine with buying a flat and car. It is expensive but you can get by with £100K annually. Althought depending where you're living, it is very hard to park your car so I would buy a small car ;]
