I lived in Italy for a few years now, it's safe, and lots of places to see, it depends on what you would like to visit really, you have all options and north and south differ a lot culturally wise as well. My only advice, don't miss out the food! Go to Italy! There's also a great ebook if you are interested: http://bit.ly/1bwuzkB

I've lived in Spain, and travelled in Italy, and I can say, categorically, that you can not even HOPE to scratch the surface in two weeks!!! For Italy, I recommend Rome, Florence and Venice in that time. Or in Spain, do Madrid, Seville and Barcelona. You might want to take two days in Granada, if at all possible (incl. travel into, and take a plane out to Barça.) Granad is WELL worth the detour. Just know you need to go back for more, and back, and back...You'll have a blast no matter which you choose. Take the road less travelled and do Spain. Everyone has done Italy! ;)

I only saw a little of spain...its a large country! I loved Italy, i guess mainly because I saw and spent longer here, but I spent nearly 2 weeks there and really enjoyed my time there. 2 weeks would be enough time to enjoy many of the things in Italy, whereas you would be travelling more around Spain as its bigger. I did a loop trip, well nearly starting in Verona and ending in Bologna and went Verona, venice ( 2 nights), Montelpulicano ( nearish Siena....thats where I THOUGHT I was staying!), rome ( 3 nights) Florence ( 3 nights) and Bologna. When I was in Rome I did a day tour to Pompeii ( highly recommended) and when I was in Florence its only a short train ride to Pisa and a lovely town called Lucca which I recommend......GREAT food, amazing history and is wonderful!!!! See and enjoy it...2 weeks should be good time to see many parts with enough time to relax for parts and include travelling time.

In two weeks you better chose one of the places. Spain is beautiful, but Italy offers more. Check out Genoa, a place which is not yet widely discovered but is reborn to new life.
