I have skimmed post about ways to get liquor/alcohol onto Cruise Ships, but all are very outdated. Wondered if anyone had any newer ideas? I have heard about the Camo-Caps. How well ...show more

Answer:
They're pretty good at finding contraband and if you are underaged and attempting to bring liquor on board, you will be denied boarding - not worth it, IMHO

In my personal experience it's been easy to take alcohol on board. You'll hear from LOTS of Nervous Nellie's here that warn not to do it, but if you're very careful, and follow common sense, it's easy. I went on a Carnival cruise last summer as well as several cruises in the past and was able to get alcohol on board with no problem at all. I used rumrunner flasks from their website http://www.rumrunnerflasks.com/ These work great. Just fill them about 2/3 full and squeeze out the air before you put on the cap so they'll remain flexible. Then they can be put in with your clothing etc in your checked luggage to go on board the ship. I put them in heavy duty zip-lock bags too just to be safe that there are no leaks. Mine didn't leak at all. Just put them inside shoes with a sock stuffed in behind or rolled up in clothes. These flasks are virtually invisible to the xray machines because they are made completely of plastic. This is all explained at the website. Things are so hectic at the terminal when they're boarding the passengers and thousands of pieces of luggage that the chances of your luggage being checked are very slim. When you arrive at the terminal just try to put your luggage onto or in front of a empty luggage carrier. Those are loaded with forklifts onto the ship and then the luggage is distributed from those during the first few hours of the cruise. The workers are overwhelmed with all that luggage and its a safe bet your luggage will just be moved along till it's at your cabin. Just keep it discreet in your cabin and out of site from your room steward. Best to keep in in your suitcase under the bed and you won't have any issues. There's usually lots of free lemonade that you can mix it with. I usually just take vodka. Taking along a cup of some sort with a lid too is a good idea. That way you can take it with you to the pool, hot tub etc etc. I often take something larger like that to fill with lemonade so as to not have to make so many trips from my room. Don't try to take it on board inside any carry-on luggage or you will likely be caught. They closely look inside all carry on stuff. I repeat, NEVER try to take it on board in carry on luggage! If you carry it on in any form or way in your carry on bag YOU WILL BE CAUGHT! Also, something I learned on my most recent cruise, is that you can purchase bottles of liquor on board on the last night of the cruise and openly carry them to your cabin to enjoy. It's way cheaper on board so plan on buying some before you leave the ship even if you're not gonna drink it on board. You can purchase bottles all the time during the cruise but they keep them until the last night. Don't try taking clear liquors on in carry on luggage because they take a close look at the caps to see it the seal has been broken. I have seen websites that sell replacement caps that you screw on and the seal isn't broken though. That may work but I don't think I'd risk it. I've answered this or similar questions before so you may have seen my answer already. What I've said here works. It did for me at least. If you have a number of people in your group just be sure to spread it around in several peoples luggage if you're needing to take on a large amount. A lot in one or 2 suitcases would be risky I would think. I also suggest doing a search here on answers for similar questions. That can be very helpful. Hope this helps.

I am not familiar with Camo-Caps, so I cannot comment on those. Smuggling booze on a cruise ship is a touchy subject and expect a bunch of negative responses when you ask. that being said, I take about half a bottle so I can enjoy a drink in my stateroom at night without the hassle of going to the bar. when I am outside my stateroom, I buy my booze and soda from the ship. I have not cruised Carnival but I have brought booze with me on other cruise lines. However much you plan on taking, cut the amount in half and you might drink it all. First, I'd do a search on the boards on cruisecritic.com. There re a number of discussions on there on the subject. Personally, I use a product called Rum Runners. The giveaway when bringing alcohol is the shape of the container. Regular liquor bottles are often flagged in the luggage requiring a visit to the "naughty room" for further inspection. I have yet to hear of someone denied boarding for getting caught, but it is a possibility. Usually the booze is taken and returned at the end of the cruise. Large mouthwash bottles, contact lens solution, and bottled water all seem to undergo high scrutiny when you bring them aboard. IMHO, these are all bad hiding places. Rum Runners break up the obvious outline of a bottle. I fill them, put them in Ziplock bags, and place them in my dress shoes. A cosmetics bag is another popular location to put them. I have read people taping them to their legs, sticking them in boots and other things. Personally, I've never needed a drink that bad. Some people will say cruise lines have scanners that will detect alcohol in any bag. I doubt this personally. Such scanners do exist that can tell what a liquid is, but o he best of my knowledge, they are small and can only scan a bottle, not a suitcase EDIT: I just got on a PC and checked Camo-Caps (I was on a mobile device earlier). IMHO, I wouldn't recommend them. As I said, bottled water goes through higher scrutiny. The last cruise I was on in November, I brought a case of bottled water aboard by throwing a luggage tag on it and giving it to the porter. It was eventually delivered, but it was hours after the rest of my luggage made it through. People have had success with the bottled water approach with the caps you speak of (not sure if they are the same brand, but I have heard of the replacement caps). However, I have heard a ton of people who would replace a few bottles of water in the case with sealed clear liquor and were still caught. People say cruise ships are cracking down, but if you ditch the original bottles and obvious containers, how do they catch you except by pure luck? An X-ray machine can only tell it is a liquid and can't make a good definition of the type of liquid as the density of 80 proof booze is only 0.1g/mL off from pure water and close to many oils. The scanners than can tell alcohol by scanning the bottle can not do full sized bags yet (if the can, why isn't TSA using them instead of confiscating our cans of soda?...Here is a link with the pictures of what the TSA is testing, a far cry from scanning an entire carry-on http://www.tsa.gov/approach/tech/bls.shtm ) From my understanding, timing has a lot to do with your chances as well. From what I hear, the bags during the college spring break timeframe tend to be looked at a lot closer than family cruise times like summer vacation. Not sure if this is true, but I have read that on other boards. Its your choice on whether you take booze or not. Rum Runners have an excellent track record. Check what people say on Cruise Critic. Good luck and happy sailing.

You just put it in your checked luggage, wrapped up good of course. OMG,IS HE SERIOUS?! Yes. I've done it literally hundreds (not an exaggeration) of times. This type of question usually causes a mass freakout here on answers, but take it from me - its easy to do and they really don't care that much if a bottle or two gets by here and there. If they catch it, they just confiscate it and give it back to you at the end of the cruise. That's all. They don't beat you with saps and throw you off of the ship as the Answers community would have you believe.

Buy miniatures and put them in with toiletries and buy half pints and roll them in socks and stuff them in your shoes.
TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
buy a package on board. all the lines know all the smuggling tricks. they have also all started cracking down HARD.

Don't. You can buy liquor on board the ship - they have plenty! People buying liquor on board helps keep the general cruise fares so low. I've been reading on one of the cruise message boards about some new type of screening device that can somehow detect liquor hidden in luggage via some kind of light waves or something. No idea whether it's true, but it's not worth being denied boarding over.

Pack it in your luggage when first boarding. Never carry it on.

Be 21 or older and buy it on board.
