  • Answer:

i worked on various cruise lines back in the early 90 s , i had the time of my life sailing round the carribean and bahamas etc, if its a sea day its very very long hours, theres a lot of training regarding solas, which is safety of life at sea , which is a priority to learn as there are boat drills before every cruise sets sail. working hours are unsocial and long as for salary it really depends on which dept you are in, personally i was in the casino dept, which, was an independant company who hired floor space off the cruise lines many of the jobs on board are tip based, where u get a basic salary , then if your involved with passengers, you boost salary by obtaining tips by delivering a good service it will also depend on your experience and which dept you wish to enter. there are many many career paths to follow

Hey today I added working in the cruise line industry as an OPTION after i graduate same as you. I did some googling and came across this article about a manager and the things that happened to her in her workplace. I thought it was an interesting read so I'm passing it on to you. http://www.cruisejunkie.com/Worker%20Life.html . keep in mind it may or may not be true. Also here is a facebook group i found. Maybe you can msg someone there who has worked on a cruise before. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Working-on-Cruise-Ships/194016591206 After searching online here is what I gathered. Must be very extroverted! (probably to withstand the smile you'll be required to wear all day even for annoying passengers on your worst day) Must be able to withstand sea sickness, and loneliness Must be able to tolerate roommates in small quarters for long periods of time. .....Basically you must have a strong mental and physical constitution as well as the discipline to be able to work long hours 7 days a week with few and far in-between breaks.
