Do u get cell phone reception on a cruise?

  • I am going on a cruise in 6 days and my birthday is on the cruise i wanted to knw if i would be able to get incoming or outcoming calls on the ship. Thanks, Miranda:-)))

    It probably depends on the service. When the ship is out to sea, it's doubtful you would have cell coverage. The phone "might" work if the ship is in port. Forgive me, but I have to ask; WHY is it so important to have your cell phone with you while you're on a vacation? Is that really necessary? Ever heard of voice mail? Ever heard of giving yourself some down time, where you don't have to worry about being available 24x7 to take a phone call or check your e-mal? After you get on-board the ship, put the phone away and just don't worry about it. Relax, force yourself if you have to! Enjoy your vacation without worrying about phone calls or text messages.

I know on Carnival they provide cell signal while at sea through their satellite system, but it adds up quickly and becomes very expensive.

Sometimes, but if you do it is very expensive.

I called my cell carrier just before my cruise in July 2010 and was told that I would have service at sea. What they didn't tell me was that I would only have service when in port. Out at sea I had no cell service at all.
