It is best to use a travel agent as they can get you some of the best deals. If you booked directly through the cruise company, they give you a rate and that is it. A travel agent on the other hand can find you the best cabin for your money, give you perks like on board credit or wine or flowers in your cabin and be able to answer all questions. I'll give you an example. On my next cruise, I asked the travel agent for an ocean view. She then found for $100 more a mini suite. Do find a travel agent that specializes in cruises though.
