It'll only take you two years to become a black belt. My advice is to keep training like you are and go into competitions and work your way up from there. Good luck.

To participate in the Olympics, you have to register as a black belt with the Kukkiwon (the South Korean government agency that oversees Taekwondo). To do that, you have to pass an examination at the Kukkiwon Headquarters in Korea. Having done that, you'll be able to enter the trials for the Olympic Taekwondo team. If you do well in the trials, you'll be on the team.

You ought to follow news and activities of WTF (http://www.wtf.org). Also, be sure your school is affiliated with them. If they are, they will have coaches that are dedicated to helping you spar. If I were you, I would attend as many classes as possible; get a kicking bag and some focus pads for home and practice with a friend when you can't go to class. Work on your technique, speed, combinations, strength, and stretching. Be sure to work out with as many different partners as possible. Attend as many tournaments as possible (regardless of the rules, style, affiliation, etc). The goal here is to get you focused on what it's like to compete - handling bad calls, bad judging, mismatched opponents, etc. Your goal should be far away from winning; your goal is for you to see how you react under pressure, and how you counter that. Let someone else take home the trophies - you're looking at the bigger picture now. Learn how people spar, and what kinds of techniques frustrate you so that you can work on them. Learn your strengths and weaknesses, and work on them. Above all, have a positive attitude, and learn from every win and loss. Good luck!!
